GO DIGITAL IN LAW 2027 (4th edition)

15–19 February 2027 | Iași, Romania
Organised by the Faculty of Law, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași
Language: English

ABOUT THE EVENT

How is artificial intelligence transforming legal practice? Who governs digital platforms? How can law protect individuals while supporting technological innovation?

Join us in Iași, Romania, for the fourth edition of the Go Digital in Law, an international academic experience dedicated to the relationship between law, technology and digital transformation.

The Winter School brings together students, doctoral researchers, young practitioners, academics and technology professionals to explore the legal questions raised by emerging technologies and the practical implications of digital regulation.

Building on three previous editions, Go Digital in Law combines substantive legal analysis, practical workshops and interdisciplinary exchange. Participants will examine how legal rules are interpreted and applied in digital contexts, discuss concrete cases and explore how technology can support legal work.

The programme connects legal education with institutional practice and the business environment, encouraging participants to understand technological developments, assess their legal implications and develop reasoned responses.

All academic activities are conducted in English.

LAST EDITION IN NUMBERS

The 2026 edition of Go Digital in Law and its accompanying COPEJI conference brought together an international community of academics, researchers, students, legal practitioners, entrepreneurs and technology specialists:

  • 300+ participants across the combined events.

  • 60+ panellists at COPEJI 9.0.
  • 200+ speakers overall, across the Winter School and COPEJI.

The international institutions represented included universities from Austria, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal and Spain. The wider participant community also included attendees from Angola, Norway, Greece, Ukraine, Brazil, Chile and Colombia.

The fourth edition builds on this international exchange while placing particular emphasis on legal reasoning, the analysis of applicable rules and discussion of practical legal problems.

Immediately after the Winter School, the Faculty of Law of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași will host the 10th International Conference “Legal Perspectives on the Internet” – COPEJI 10.0, under the theme:

THE MACHINE IS WATCHING YOU. WHO IS WATCHING THE MACHINE?
Law, Privacy and Surveillance in the Age of AI

We strongly encourage Winter School participants to stay for COPEJI, a reputable international conference that brings together academics, legal practitioners, policymakers, computer scientists and interdisciplinary researchers to discuss the legal challenges of technological change.

For its anniversary edition, COPEJI turns to the growing capacity of public and private actors to observe, profile, classify and predict human behaviour. Discussions will address privacy, surveillance, algorithmic accountability, liability and fundamental rights, including:

  • Facial recognition and biometric identification.
  • Employee monitoring and algorithmic management.
  • Corporate surveillance and platform power.
  • Financial surveillance and algorithmic credit scoring.
  • Children’s privacy and monitoring technologies.
  • Predictive policing, digital investigations and electronic evidence.

The conference offers an opportunity to engage with expert speakers, discover current research and continue the discussions initiated during the Winter School.

Participants interested in presenting a paper must follow the separate COPEJI submission and registration procedure. Registration for the Winter School does not constitute acceptance as a conference speaker.

Conference attendance as an additional activity within the Winter School registration package: €60.

The separate COPEJI registration procedure provides the following fees: €50 for a single-authored paper, €35 per author for a co-authored paper, and €50 for listeners registering directly for the conference. These are separate registration options and are not additional charges payable on top of the €60 conference option.
